Albany’s Jen Schumacher (Lisle, N.Y./Whitney Point) has been named Wilson Player of the Week, while Northeastern’s Shaleyse Smallwood (Boston, Mass./O’Bryant) earns her sixth Rookie of the Week award of the season. The awards were announced on Monday (January 24).
Schumacher tied the school’s single-game scoring record and set a career-high with 36 points against Vermont. It is the second time this season that she has scored 30+ points. She made 11-of-15 field goals, including her first nine three-pointers. Her only missed three came on a desperation attempt in the final minute. Her nine three’s broke her own school mark set earlier this season and is the best effort (9-for-10) in the nation this season. Schumacher’s 36 points accounted for 64 percent of UAlbany’s total on the day. Earlier in the week against UMBC, Schumacher finished with 12 points, all coming from behind the arc.
Smallwood scored a game-high and season-high tying 21 points against Maine on 8-of-14 shooting from the field and 3-of-4 shooting from 3-point range. Smallwood pulled down a career-high six rebounds against the Black Bears and added one steal and two assists. Against Boston University, She tallied 15 points, five rebounds and three assists in 37 minutes of play.
