Maine’s Monica Peterson (Wilmington, Del./A.I. duPont) earns her first Wilson Player of the Week award of the season, while Danielle Hood (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y./Walter Panas) of Hartford wins her second Rookie of the Week award on the season. The honors were handed out on Monday (January 10).

Peterson averaged 16.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game, recording a pair of double-doubles to help Maine to a 2-0 start in America East play. In a 73-56 victory at Binghamton, she scored 13 points, had 13 rebounds and added two assists. Peterson topped that effort in the Black Bears 77-70 win over visiting Vermont, establishing season highs with 20 points and 14 boards. The forward was instrumental as Maine rallied from a 19-point first-half deficit. Her layup, part of an 8-0 Black Bear run to open the second half, tied the game at 40. Peterson added two assists and a steal versus the Catamounts.

Hood averaged 10.5 points and 5.0 rebounds per game as the Hawks opened America East play with wins over Boston University and UMBC last week. Hood scored 11 points and grabbed five rebounds in the win over B.U. and added 10 points and five rebounds in the win over UMBC. Hood ranks second on the team in rebounding (5.2 rpg) and fifth in scoring (7.7 ppg). She has reached double figures five times this season, including the last three consecutive games.
