Binghamton's Anne Crocus (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) has been named America East Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Northeastern's Kira Batura (Downers Grove South, Ill./Downers Grove South) and Blair Buchanan (Muncie, Ind./Delta) of Albany have garnered Rookie of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively. The volleyball awards were announced on Monday (September 20).
Crocus had a team-high 4.38 kills and 1.62 blocks per game on the week, both tops in the conference, while hitting an impressive .358. She led her squad to a 2-1 record and a second-place finish at the George Washington Volleyball Invitational this past weekend, being named to the all-tournament team for her efforts. Crocus nailed a career-high 26 kills the Bearcats' 3-1 victory over a solid Akron team.
Batura recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 10 kills and a match-high 32 digs in the 3-2 Northeastern win over the Big East's Connecticut. The freshman outside hitter tallied nine kills in each of the three matches over the weekend and led the team with 21 digs against No. 25 Ohio State. On the week, Batura averaged 2.31 kills, 4.19 digs and 0.50 service aces per game.
Buchanan finished the week with 148 assists, which included an 11.38 assists per game average. She managed at least 30 assists in each of UAlbany’s four matches, while hitting .333. Buchanan guided the Great Danes to three quality victories over on the week Seton Hall, Temple and American, with their only loss coming versus No. 15 Arizona, 3-1.
