Maine’s Jamie Morin (Winslow, Maine/Winslow) has been named America East Player of the Week for field hockey, while Boston University’s Sarah Shute (Lincolnville, Maine/Somers) has been named Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday (September 20).
Morin continued her impressive season as she went 2-1 on the week. She recorded a 2-1 win over Dartmouth on Tuesday afternoon and then shutout 16th ranked Harvard on Saturday afternoon. Her lone loss of the week was a heart-breaking 1-0 defeat to UMass. Morin made nine saves in a double overtime win over Dartmouth and followed that up with four saves against Harvard for her third shutout of the year.
Shute scored a goal in each of the Terriers games this week, both wins. Shute scored the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win at Massachusetts on Sept. 15, and accounted for the team’s first goal in a 3-1 win over Brown on Sept. 18. She took eight shots in the two games.
