Huchthausen Named Assistant Commissioner

Amy Huchthausen, who has spent the last two years as Assistant Director for Compliance and Governance at the Atlantic Coast Conference, was named Assistant Commissioner for America East Conference it was announced Thursday (August 26) by Chris Monasch, Commissioner of America East. Huchthausen will oversee America East’s compliance program and will serve as the liaison between the conference, its member institutions and the NCAA in the areas of Legislation, Membership Services and Enforcement.

“Amy brings a wealth of experience from the ACC, the Missouri Valley Conference and the Big East,” said Monasch. “She also brings the perspective of the student-athlete as a former varsity softball player. We expect her to be an important part of our team as we continue to improve the services for our member institutions.”

Huchthausen was instrumental in the compliance operations at the ACC since her hire in 2002. She previously worked as the Director of Compliance for the Missouri Valley Conference from 2000-02 and as a compliance assistant for the Big East Conference in 1999-2000.

A 1999 graduate of University of Wisconsin – La Crosse with her bachelor’s degree in exercise and sport science and sport management, Huchthausen was a four-year letter winner for the Eagle softball team from 1996-99 and served as the team captain as a junior and senior. She was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association All-American Scholar-Athlete and is presently working on her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction in higher education from University of North Carolina – Greensboro.

Huchthausen has served on a number of NCAA Committees including the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee from 1997-2002 and the NCAA Division III Management Council from 1999-2001. She is presently an NCAA Division III Regional Leadership Conference Facilitator.

Huchthausen replaces Tracy Shoemake who resigned after seven years with America East to become Associate Athletic Director at Texas State University in August.

America East consists of 10 member institutions: University at Albany, Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Hartford, University of Maine, UMBC, University of New Hampshire, Northeastern University, Stony Brook University and University of Vermont.
