Northeastern’s Jeff Heriot (Franklin, Mass/Franklin/Massachusetts) has been named America East's Player of the Week for baseball, while Tony Cekovsky (Southington, Conn./Southington) of Hartford and Maine’s Steve Richard (Billerica, Mass./Malden Catholic) garnered Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors respectively. The awards were announced Monday (May 10).

Heriot went 10-for-19 (.526) on the week, going 7-for-9 against Binghamton with two home runs on Saturday. In the first game of the doubleheader, he went 5-for-6 with a homer, four runs and three RBI. In the second game, Heriot went 2-for-3 with a homer, two runs, two RBI and a sacrifice fly. He was crucial in NU’s comeback in the second game, hitting a homer in the sixth inning and scoring the game-tying run in the seventh inning. When NU played Heriot’s former team, UMass, on Thursday, he went 2-4 with three RBI.

Cekovsky of Hartford tossed a three-hit shutout to earn his first victory of the season in a 5-0 win over first-place Albany on Sunday. Cekovsky threw seven innings and recorded seven strikeouts while walking just one versus America East’s top offensive squad.

Richard had one of the best outings of his career on Sunday when he gave up just two hits over 7.2 innings to earn a win over Stony Brook. He did not allow a run while striking out six Seawolves and gave up just single hits in the third and fourth innings.
