Kelly Fiorani (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) and Kelly Fahey (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) of UMBC were named the America East women's lacrosse Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, and Michelle Bussichella (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) of Boston University was named Defender of the Week. The awards were announced Monday, April 5.
Fiorani tallied eight goals and three assists on the week. She recorded three goals in the Retrievers 13-12 win over American and later in the week scored five more in a 24-10 conference-win over Stony Brook.
Bussichella anchored the Terriers defense, which allowed just nine goals during the week. She amassed four ground balls and also caused three turnovers in a 13-2 conference-win over Vermont.
Fahey scored five goals and recorded one assist in two UMBC wins during the week. Her second goal with 16 seconds left against American proved to be the game-winner giving UMBC their first win of the season. Against Stony Brook, Fahey scored three goals on three shots and also won eight draw controls.
