Kevin McKeown (Brewster, N.Y./Brewster) of Binghamton has been named the America East Player of the Week and Drew Westervelt (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) of UMBC has been chosen the America East Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday, April 5.
McKeown, a sophomore goalkeeper, recorded 21 saves in two Bearcat wins this week, including 12 saves in a 9-7 conference-win over Stony Brook. He also recorded nine saves and only allowed one goal in an 11-1 win over Wagner.
Westervelt scored two goals and recorded two assists, while corralling six ground balls in the Retrievers 10-9 win over America East foe Albany. In the closing seconds, Westervelt helped to preserve the UMBC win as he picked off an Albany clearing attempt, denying the Great Danes a final possession.
