Maine’s Ryan Quintal (Manchester, N.H./Memorial) has been named America East Player of the Week, while Jordan Thomson (Ottawa, Ontario/Nepean) of Northeastern and Chris Sipp (Wantagh, N.Y./MacArthur) of Stony Brook garner Pitcher of the Week and Rookie of the Week honors respectively. The awards were announced Monday (April 26).
Quintal hit .545 (12-for-22) on the week with a .773 slugging percentage. He had hits in all five contests with four multi-hit games, including going 4-for-5 on Saturday in the second game against Binghamton. He led the team in hits and was tied for the team lead in RBI (7) and total bases (17). Quintal hit a two-run home run, his third of the season, against Husson College.
Thomson pitched a complete game, two-hit shutout, allowing just one runner to second base, as NU downed Stony Brook 1-0. He struck out five batters and walked just one. Thomson set the Seawolves down in order in the third, fifth, sixth and seventh innings in the victory. In three America East games this season, Thomson is 3-0 with a 0.43 ERA and three complete games with 22 strikeouts in 21 innings.
Sipp was the toughest out in the Seawolves lineup this week, going 8-for-14 (.571 batting average) and drawing four walks to post a .667 on-base percentage. His eight hits were a team-high as he hit safely in four of the Seawolves’ five games this week, including three multi-hit efforts. Stony Brook went 4-1 on the week, taking two of three at Northeastern.
