Wildcat Invitational
The University of New Hampshire and University of Maine men’s track and field teams finished first and second, respectively, at the Wildcat Invitational in Durham, N.H. last Saturday. In the women’s events, New Hampshire led the America East teams with a third-place finish, while Maine finished fifth and University of Vermont placed sixth.

In the men’s events, the Wildcats turned in three first-place finishes as Timothy Perry (Bethel, Conn./Bethel) won the 5,000-meter run (15:00.79), Mackenzie Kilpatrick (Concord, N.H./Henniker) was tops in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:34.65) and David Ball (Orange, Vt./Worcester Academy) was victorious in the high jump (6’ 7”). Andre Dubois (Lewiston, Maine/Lewiston) led Maine, garnering first-place accolades in the shot put (45’ 9.75”) and discus (141’ 11”).

Megan Hepp (Milton, Vt./Milton) led the Wildcat women’s effort with a first-place showing in the 5,000 (17:38.73), while Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine/Messalanskee) and Claire Poliquin (N. Vancouver, B.C./Handsworth) each grabbed first-place points for the Black Bears, winning the 800 (2:16) and high jump (5’ 5”) respectively. Vermont’s Kristal Kostiew (Northwood, N.H./Coe-Brown) dominated the field events, winning the shot put (45’ 3.5”), hammer throw (174’ 1”) and javelin (130’ 7”), while teammate Tee Gingras (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) achieved the top time in the 1,500 (4:40.84).

Brown Invitational
The Northeastern University men’s and women’s track and field teams, along with the Boston University men’s track and field team, were in action at the Brown Invitational last Saturday in Providence, R.I.

Aquila Williams-Judge (Boston, Mass./Scituate) turned in a pair of first-place finishes for the Northeastern women, winning the 100 hurdles (14.49) and long jump (18’ 4.5”). Teammate Laura Chmielewski (Monmouth, N.J./South Brunswick/Rutgers) also garnered first-place honors, topping all competitors in the pole vault with a jump of 12’ 3.5”.

For the men, Northeastern received first-place finishes from Idris Payne (New York, N.Y./Fordham Prep) in the 200 (21.93), Aaron Hill (Ben Wheeler, Texas/Bishop T.K. Gorman) in the pole vault (15’ 11”) and Derek Anderson (Wrentham, Mass./Xavarian Brothers) in the discus (179’ 11”). Top finishers for Boston University included Jeff McAulay (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Arlington) and Peter Maitland (Cohasset, Mass./Cohasset), who each turned in seventh-place finishes in the long jump (21’ 6.75”) and javelin (176’) respectively.

Around the Conference

  • The UMBC men’s and women’s track and field teams along with athletes from Binghamton University, competed at Virginia’s Lou Onesty/Milton Abramson Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. Adam Grossman (Baltimore, Md./Pikesville) guided the UMBC men with a second-place showing in the 100 (10.95) while Tyishua Johnson (Lanham, Md./Elizabeth Seton) placed sixth in the triple jump (36’ 7”) to lead the Retriever women. In the 400 hurdles, Mike Stewart (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) and Hasani Hampden (Freeport, N.Y./Freeport) grabbed second and third-place points, respectively, for the Bearcats.

  • University at Albany athletes broke two school records while competing at the Williams Relays. Brandon Howlett (New Haven, Conn./Hillhouse) posted a new meet and school mark in the men’s discus with a hurl of 177’ 1.5” and Alyssa Lotmore (Albany, N.Y./Bishop Maginn) set a school record in the women’s 5,000 as she crossed the line with a time of 17:34.68. Other notable performances included Teresa Covert (Susquehanna, Pa./Susquehanna), who was victorious in the women’s 100 (12.21) and 100 hurdles (14.67), along with Sam Gonzalez (Fort Hunter, N.Y./Fonda-Fultonville) who was first in the men’s 3,000 steeplechase (9.57).

  • On Tuesday, April 13, Brandon Howlett was named the ECAC Division I Field Athlete of the Week for the second straight week.

  • At the Iona Spring Classic in New Rochelle, N.Y., the University of Hartford and the Stony Brook University men’s and women’s track and field teams each turned in strong performances. The Seawolves sported four first-place finishes as Chris Hunt (St. Albans, N.Y./Thomas Edison) won the 600 (1:21.90) and Joe Cardinale (Commack, N.Y./Commack) won the discus (146' 5”) on the men’s side and Abigail Nathaniel (Jamaica, N.Y./Thomas Edison) won the long jump (16' 3") and Jackie Nunez (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai/Suffolk CC) captured the mile (5:02.25) for the women. Anike Orimogunje (Orange, N.J./Queen of Peace) picked up a win for the Hawks as she topped all performers in the women’s 200 (25.59), while Chris Spivey (Hyde Park, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) also won the 200 (22.62) for the Hartford men.

  • Stony Brook athletes were also in competition at the Wesleyan Invitational during the week. Joe Cardinale highlighted the Seawolves’ performances as he won both the shot put (46' 7.5") and discus (149' 7").
