Snowflake Classic
Northeastern, Boston University, New Hampshire and Vermont all competed at the Huskies’ Snowflake Classic held at the Solomon Track in Dedham, Mass.
In the men’s competition, Derek Anderson (Wrentham, Mass./Xavarian Brothers) led the way for the Huskies as he won the shot put (53’ 10.5”) and discus (182’ 1”), while teammates Peter Jasmin (Middletown, N.Y./Pinebush) and Ryan Cahill (Holmdel, N.J./Holmdel) also picked up first-place finishes. Jochen Dieckfoss (Tuebingen, Germany/Geschwister-Scholl- Schule) and Lucjan Zaborowski (Chorzow, Poland/J. Slowacki) picked up victories for Boston University in the 3,000 steeplechase (9:04.28) and 400 (48.25), respectively, and New Hampshire’s Anthony Truax (Dover, N.H./Dover) was the top finisher in the 5,000 (15:08.34).
The Northeastern women also had a strong showing, picking up five individual first-place finishes, highlighted by Wittly Jourdan (Malden, Mass./Somerville) who won the 100 hurdles (14.95) and also placed second in the 400 hurdles (1:05.57). Lauren Tebbets (Waterville, Maine/Waterville) led New Hampshire with a top finish in the pole vault (10’ 11.75”), Boston University’s Kathleen Chen (Topsfield, Mass./Topsfield) claimed first in the javelin (131’) and Tee Gingras (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) grabbed Vermont first-place points in the 1,500 (4:46.99).
Raleigh Relays
Members of the New Hampshire and Albany track and field squads also competed at the Raleigh Relays hosted by North Carolina State University.
In the women’s events, New Hampshire’s Megan Hepp (Milton, Vt./Milton) earned a second-place finish in the 10,000 (36:16.89), while teammate Lauren Knight (Centerville, Mass./Centerville) broke the school record in the shot put with a throw of 41’ 0.5”. For Albany, Teresa Covert (Susquehanna, Pa./Susquehanna) placed fourth in the 100 hurdles with a NCAA Regional qualifying time of 13.79 and Meghan Howell (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern) broke her own school mark in the 3,000 steeplechase (11:11.69).
For the men, Greg Taylor (Allentown, Pa./Allentown) had the top Wildcat showing as he placed 15th in the triple jump (45’ 7.75”) and Gered Burns (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) placed 11th in the 800 (1:54.35) for the Great Danes top effort.
Around the Conference
At Army’s Dick Shea Open, Tequirra Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y./.Paul Roberson) placed first in the 100 (11.95) and Jennifer Aubin (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) took first in the triple jump (38 4.25”) to lead the Albany women. On the men’s side Robbie Freeman (New Hyde Park, N.Y./Great Neck South) won the 5,000 (15:17.50) and Nelson English (Guilderland, N.Y./Guilderland) captured first in the 400 (49.33). Binghamton also competed in the event as Rory Quiller (West Point, N.Y./James I. Oneill) set a new school record and took first in the high jump with an NCAA Regional qualifying jump of 16’ 4.75”. Mike Stewart (Massapequa, N.Y./Massapequa) also garnered first-place honors as he won the 400 hurdles (55.04), and Lindsey Bohrer-Yardley (Oneida, N.Y./Vernon-Verona Sherrill) won the 3,000 steeplechase (11:03.7) for the Binghamton women’s top finish.
The Stony Brook and Hartford men’s and women’s track teams competed at the Monmouth University Outdoor Season Opener. For Hartford, the top women’s finisher was Angela White (Rockland, N.Y./Rockland), who took second in the triple jump (34’ 5.75”), while Chris Spivey (Hyde Park, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) led the men with a third-place showing in the 100 (10.85). Amanda Cavitt (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford/Siena) topped the Stony Brook women with a fourth-place finish in the javelin (109’ 4”), while Joe Cardinale (Commack, N.Y./Commack) garnered sixth-place accolades in the discus (138’ 4”).
The Maine men and women’s teams were both in action at Navy. Claire Poliquin (N. Vancouver, B.C./Handsworth), Katie Page (Palmyra, Maine/Nokomis Regional) and Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine/Messalanskee) each captured first-place victories for the Black Bear women, while the men strung together three second-place finishes.
The UMBC men and women’s track and field teams competed at the Virginia Commonwealth RAM Invitational. The Retriever men obtained first-place points in the 4x400 (3:18.29) and 4x800 (7:53.44) relays and also received a first-place finish from Andre Felton (Oxon Hill, Md./Oxon Hill) in the 100 (10.72). Alesia Hovatter (Mount Jackson, Va./Central) was the top UMBC women’s finisher after placing third in the 100 hurdles (14.72).
