America East Athletes Compete at ECAC/IC4A Championships

America East women’s track and field athletes competed in the ECAC Championships at Northeastern University’s Reggie Lewis Track and Field Center, while men’s track and field athletes competed in the IC4A Championships at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center. All athletes had previously qualified for each of the championships.

Northeastern had the strongest showing of the America East teams as both Ahndraea Allen (Roselle Park, N.J./Roselle Park) and Zara Northover (Elmont, N.Y./Sewanhaka) claimed first-place victories. Allen was a winner in the 400-meter dash with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 53.49 and Northover won the shot put with an NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 51’ 4.25”. Allen also placed second in the 200 (24.20), while teammate Jordine Kimbrel (Dorchester, Mass./Latin Academy) grabbed second in the 60 (7.58) and fifth in the 200 (24.61).

Other top America East finishers included Jackie Nunez (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Mt. Sinai/Suffolk Community College) of Stony Brook University who placed second in the mile with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 4:46.81. Kristal Kostiew (Northwood, N.H./Coe-Brown) was the top overall finisher for University of Vermont with a second-place NCAA provisional qualifying throw of 63’ 2” and University at Albany was led by Joy Williams (New Rochelle, N.Y./New Rochelle) in the shot put (47’ 4.5”) with a fifth-place showing. Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine/Brewer), Janeen Shepard (Brunswick, Maine/Brunswick), Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine/Messalanskee) and Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario/Hammarskiold), who were all members of the second-place 4x800-meter relay team, represented University of Maine.

Albany’s Gered Burns (Altamont, N.Y./Guilderland) was the lone first-place finisher for the men as he ran the 800 in 1:50.11. Other top finishers at the IC4A Championships included Northeastern’s Derek Anderson (Wrentham, Mass./Xavarian Brothers) who grabbed third-place honors in the shot put (56’ 11.25”) and teammates Idris Payne (New York, N.Y./Fordham Prep), who placed fourth in the 400 (47.12), and Tom Pratt (Rochester, N.Y./Irondequoit) who landed fifth in the 1000 (2:26.61). Dale Summerville (Waiuku, New Zealand/King's College/Auclland University) guided Stony Brook with a third-place finish in the 3000, while Stephen Meinelt (Topsfield, Mass./Topsfield) led New Hampshire with a fourth-place finish in the 5000 (14:14.87).
