Barea, Beauford, Davis Grab Final Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

Sophomore Jose Juan Barea of Northeastern is the America East Player of the Week for the third time this season. Stony Brook’s Mitchell Beauford and Northeastern’s Bennet Davis share America East Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Monday (March 1).

Barea (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Miami Christian) was 7-of-11 beyond the arc and scored 32 points while handing out five assists as the Huskies clinched the No. 3 seed in the Choice Hotels International America East Men’s Basketball Championship with a 99-89 win over Maine Thursday. The 5-11 guard was 8-of-12 from the floor, including 3-of-5 beyond the arc en route to 25 points in an 80-62 win at Albany Sunday. His pull-up jumper with 18:23 left put him over the 1,000-point plateau in just his 53rd collegiate game. He is the third fastest to 1,000 points in Husky history behind Reggie Lewis (51 games) and Pete Harris (52).

Beauford (Dix Hills, N.Y./Christ the King) made his first 10 field goals and shot 11-of-13 from the floor en route to 22 points in a 74-72 overtime loss at New Hampshire Sunday. He also scored 13 points and had three steals in a 75-64 loss at Boston University Thursday.

Davis (Freeport, Bahamas/Northwest Christian/Milford Academy/Notre Dame Prep) scored 17 points and hauled down seven rebounds in the Huskies’ 99-89 win over Maine Thursday to secure the No. 3 seed in the Choice Hotels International America East Men’s Basketball Championship. The 6-9 forward was 6-of-9 from the floor and also had two blocks and a steal. He added 11 points and five rebounds in a 80-62 win at Albany Sunday.
