Maine’s Heather Ernest (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) and Boston University’s Katie Terhune (Port Murray, N.J./Warren Hills) share this week’s Wilson Player of the Week honors, while freshman Mykeema Ford (Trenton, N.J./Trenton) of Stony Brook has been named this week’s Wilson Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday (February 2).
Ernest grabs her third Player of the Week accolade of the season, as she averaged 19.0 ppg and 11.5 rpg on the week. The reigning America East Player of the Year scored 17 points and pulled down nine boards in a 72-55 win at Northeastern and followed that up with 21 points and 14 rebounds in a 63-53 home win over Stony Brook. She has now scored 20 points or more six times this season and has nine double-doubles (points-rebounds).
Terhune averaged 20.0 ppg and 3.0 rpg on the week enroute to her second consecutive Player of the Week award. The 6-0 guard scored a team-high 24 points, including the game winning free throws with 4.1 seconds on the clock, in Boston University’s 67-66 win over Stony Brook. She was 11-of-12 from the line.
In the Terriers other contest on the week, Terhune continued her great free throw shooting (8-of-8 from the stripe) as Boston U. downed Albany 77-60. She finished with 16 points and four boards. Through the first eight conference games of the season, Terhune is averaging a league-best 19.5 ppg.
Ford put together an outstanding week, averaging 25.0 ppg while burying 11 three pointers in the Seawolves’ two outings. Ford had a career night in the Seawolves near upset of Boston University, finishing with a game-high 31 points on 9-of-15 (.600) shooting from the floor, including 7-of-9 (.778) from three-point range. The seven three’s set a new Stony Brook record and tied her for the third best single-game performance in America East history. Ford’s 31 points tied her for the seventh best outing in school history. Against Maine she once again led the way with a team-high 19 points to go with three assists.
