The 16th annual America East Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the Boston University Track and Tennis Center on the Boston University campus on Friday, February 21, and Saturday, February 22.
Last year University at Albany, who joined America East just one year prior, claimed its first America East Men's Indoor Track and Field title. On the women's side, Northeastern University grabbed the title as the Huskies cruised to victory with a 49-point cushion over second-place Boston University. The win marked Northeastern's sixth team title, but was their first since the 1998 season.
Albany's Paul Roche was named Men's Most Outstanding Field Performer after winning the 55-meter Hurdles (7.60), the Pentathlon (3,618 points), and the Long Jump (22' 4.25") titles. Northeastern's Idris Payne, who won and set new America East records in both the men's 200-meter Dash (21.76) and the 400-meter Dash (47.47), was named the Men's Most Outstanding Track Performer. Roche and Payne, along with Albany's Naron Stewart, Northeastern's Derek Anderson, Andre Nacaxe and Jordan Jones of Boston University, and Greg Taylor of the University of New Hampshire, will also look to defend their titles.
On the women's side, Northeastern's Ahndraea Allen won the women's 200-meter Dash (24.49), setting a new America East Championship Record, and also won the 400-meter Dash (56.71) as she was named the Women's Most Outstanding Track Performer. Teammates Ebony Jack, Janel Kozlowsi and Zara Northover were all individual champions who will return for the Huskies. New Hampshire's Katie Litwinowich and Lesley Read, along with Teresa Covert of Albany, will all look to repeat as individual champions.
The Championship begins Friday at 10 a.m. with the women’s Pentathlon followed by the men's heptathlon. Other Friday finals for both men and women are the Long Jump, Weight Throw, Pole Vault, 5000-meter Run, and the Distance Medley Relay.
Saturday’s events begin at 9 a.m. with the conclusion of the men's Heptathlon. Other Saturday finals are: Shot Put, High Jump, Triple Jump, 1-mile Run, 55-meter Dash, 400-meter Dash, 500-meter Dash, 55-meter Hurdles, 800-meter Run, 1000-meter Run, 200-meter Dash, 3000-meter run, 4x800-meter Relay, and the 4x400-meter Relay.
Albany, Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Hartford, University of Maine, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC), New Hampshire, Northeastern, Stony Brook University and University of Vermont will all compete in the 2004 America East Indoor Track and Field Championship.
