The 14th annual America East Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships will be held at the Stanley Wallace Pool at the University of Maine in Orono on Friday, February 20, Saturday, February 21, and Sunday, February 22.
Northeastern University has won four-straight Women's Swimming and Diving titles. Binghamton University is the defending champion on the men's side after claiming its first title in just its second year of membership in the conference.
Binghamton junior Chris McGuire, who was named the Men’s Outstanding Swimmer of the Year after setting a new America East Championship record in the 200-yard Butterfly (1:49.16), returns for the Bearcats. Other individual champions who return this season include: Binghamton’s Robert Kaczynski, Stony Brook University's Nathan French, along with Mike Kelly and Victor Paguia of Boston University.
The Northeastern women were led by Kristen Kane who took home second place in the 200-yard Breaststroke (2:20.98), along with Katherine Kane and Emily Rochefort who turned in third and fourth place finishes respectively. All three return for the Huskies along with Huijue Cai, Yun Qu and Laura Linek of Binghamton and Kristen Nardozzi and Melissa Lague of University of New Hampshire, who each grabbed first place finishes. New Hampshire sophomore Shannon Daly, who was named the Women's Outstanding Swimmer of the Year, also returns for the Wildcats.
Trials begin Friday at 11 a.m. in the 500-yard Freestyle, 200-yard Individual Medley, 50-yard Freestyle, women's Three-Meter Diving, and men's One-Meter Diving. Championships, which begin at 6 p.m., will be decided in those events, as well as the 200-yard Freestyle Relay and the 400-yard Medley Relay.
Saturday's trials begin at 11 a.m. in the 400-yard Individual Medley, 100-yard Butterfly, 200-yard Freestyle, 100-yard Breaststroke, 100-yard Backstroke, and women's One-Meter Diving. Championships in those events, as well as the 200-yard Medley Relay and the 800-yard Freestyle Relay, will begin at 6 p.m.
Sunday's trials begin at 11 a.m. in the 200-yard Backstroke, 100-yard Freestyle, 200-yard Breaststroke, 200-yard Butterfly, 1650-yard Freestyle, and men's Three-Meter Diving. Championships begin at 5:30 p.m. in those events and the 400-yard Freestyle Relay.
Binghamton, Boston University, University of Maine, University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) New Hampshire, Northeastern (women only), Stony Brook, and University of Vermont will vie for the Swimming and Diving Championships.
