Northeastern’s Idris Payne (New York, N.Y/Fordham Prep) and Stony Brook’s Leonora Joy (Auckland, New Zealand/Auckland University of Technology) have been named the Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, respectively, while Binghamton’s Paddy Hennessy (Selkirk, N.Y./Bethlehem) and Northeastern’s Laura Chmielewski (Monmouth, N.J./South Brunswick/Rutgers) have been named Men’s and Women’s Field Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (December 7).
Payne, a senior at Northeastern, easily won the 400 crossing the finish line in a time of 48.35, nearly a second ahead of second place.
Joy, a junior at Stony Brook, captured the 5,000-meters in an ECAC and Metropolitan Championship qualifying time of 17:28.40 in the Seawolves first outing of the season at the Fordham Quad meet.
The junior Hennessy won the 35 lb. weight throw in the season-opening Cornell indoor track relays this past weekend. His distance of 56-11 met the qualifying standard for the IC4A Indoor Championships.
Chmielewski, a junior at Northeastern, won the pole vault with a leap of 12’6”, six inches above second place.
