UMBC’s Kunakorn Yisomruay (Bangkok, Thailand/The Bolles School) and Tim Ward (Glen Burnie, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) have been named Men’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, while New Hampshire’s Shannon Daly (Brightwaters, N.Y./Brightwaters) and Shana Dege (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) have been named Women’s Swimming and Diving performers of the week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (November 9).
The freshman Yisomruay won first place in the 200 IM (1:55.59) and 200 backstroke (1:54.98) in the tri-meet against Binghamton and Seton Hall. He also swam the third leg of the 400 freestyle relay to help UMBC win with a time of 3:13.78. His closest competitor in the 200 IM came in at 1:58.55, while his closest competitor in the 200 back came in at 1:56.27. UMBC went 2-0 at this meet to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Ward, also a freshman at UMBC, Placed first in the 3-meter event in the tri-meet against Binghamton and Seton Hall with a score of 262.55. UMBC went 2-0 at this meet to improve to 5-0 on the season.
Daly, a junior at UNH, won the 50 free with a time of 24.44 seconds, as well as the 200 breast by clocking in at 2:20.12 Saturday against Boston University. In an exhibition swim, Daly also put up the best time in the 200 individual medley at 2:10.07.
Dege, a freshman at UNH, finished in first from the 1-meter height with a score of 253.30. She also had a strong performance at the 3-meter height, posting a score of 244.80 and finished second Saturday against Boston University.
