Johnstone, Dege, Tayla, Lague, Voels Pick Up Weekly Swimming & Diving Awards

New Hampshire’s Chris Johnstone (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) and Shana Dege (Lockport, N.Y./Lockport) have been named Men’s and Women’s Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, while while Binghamton’s Kaan Tayla (Ankara, Turkey/Buyuk) has been named Men’s Swimming Performer of the Week. New Hampshire’s Melissa Lague (Salem, N.H./Salem) and Northeastern’s Coryn Voels (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Sacred Heart Academy) have been named Women’s Co-Swimming Performers of the Week. The awards were announced Wednesday (November 3).

Johnstone recorded one of UNH's five first-place finishes by winning the 3-meter dive competition against Boston College with 238.05 points. He placed second in the 1-meter dive with 240.60 points.

Dege placed second in the 1-meter dive (236.60 points) and third in the 3-meter dive (223.40) to help the Wildcats defeat Boston College for the first time since the early 1970's by a score of 186.5 -- 112.5.

In three meets this season, Kann has placed first in all seven individual events that he has competed in. Against Boston College, Kaan won the 200 free (1:43.61), the 50 free (21.71) and the 500 free (4:55.35). Against Boston University, he was victorious in the 200 free (1:44.93) and the 500 free (4:57.97). Against Towson, Kaan took home the top spot in the 100 free (46.69) and the 200 free (1:45.21). He anchored in the 400 freestyle relay (3:13.99) against Boston College on October 17th and the 400 medley relay against Boston U. and Towson with times of (3:36.51) and (3:30.08) respectively.

Melissa Lague (Salem, N.H./Salem), Co-Women’s Swimming and Lague won three individual events and also swam the opening leg of the winning 200-yard medley relay team to lead UNH to its first victory against Boston College (186.5 -- 112.5) since the early 1970's. Lague was the fastest swimmer in both backstroke events as she won the 100 (:57.01) and 200 (2:04.85). She also took first place in the 200 individual medley (2:10.09). She was the class of the field in backstroke, as she won the 100 by nearly three seconds (2.79) and outdistanced the nearest competitor in the 200 field by 5.64 seconds.

Voels won the 100-yard backstroke and placed second in the 200-yard back against Boston University last weekend.
