Stony Brook sophomore guard Mitchell Beauford and Vermont senior guard T.J. Sorrentine share America East Player of the Week honors while New Hampshire guard Chris Vetrano and Northeastern forward Shawn James share America East Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Monday (November 29).
Beauford (Dix Hills, N.Y./Christ the King) scored a career-high 27 points on 10-of-17 shooting as the Seawolves rallied from a 10-point second-half deficit to win at previously unbeaten Columbia, 77-73 Saturday. He also had 14 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in a 68-54 win over Army Wednesday.
Sorrentine (Pawtucket, R.I./St. Raphael’s) had a season-high 31 points with four assists in the 90-70 win over Marist Friday then added 23 points with six rebounds and five assists in the 79-57 win over Iona Sunday. He committed just one turnover in two games.
Vetrano (Andover, Mass./Andover) made six three-pointers en route to 15 points in a 77-71 win over Army Sunday. He also scored 16 points, grabbed seven rebounds and added five assists at Boston College Tuesday. He was 5-of-10 from the floor in that game, including 4-of-7 beyond the arc.
James (Brooklyn, N.Y./High School of Redirection/Notre Dame Prep) made an immediate splash for the Huskies scoring 18 points (7-of-10 from the floor), pulling down eight rebounds and blocking a school-record seven shots in 28 minutes of action in his debut at Harvard Saturday.
