Sophomore forward Danielle Clark (Corinna, Maine/Nokomis Regional) of the University of New Hampshire has been named America East’s first Wilson Player of the Week for the 2004-05 season, while guards Corinne Jean (Victoriaville, Quebec/College Montemorency) of Boston University and Shaleyse Smallwood (Boston, Mass./O’Bryant) of Northeastern University share America East’s first Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were handed out on Monday (November 22).
After scoring only three points in the first half, Clark came alive in the second half and overtime period to lead the Wildcats to a 75-73 overtime victory versus the Ivy League’s Dartmouth. With UNH down by four points with two minutes remaining in regulation, Clark hit three free throws to bring them within one. In overtime, Clark scored UNH’s first 12 points, including a three-pointer that rattled in to give UNH the lead for good. Immediately after that three-pointer, Clark drew a charge that enabled the Wildcats to expand the lead.
In her first collegiate game against Saint Joseph’s, Jean scored a game-high 14 points, shooting 5-of-11 from the field, including 3-of-4 from three-point range. The 6-1 guard also contributed three rebounds and one assist in 25 minutes of play. Smallwood tallied double-digits in her first two collegiate games over the weekend with 12 points against both Rhode Island and Penn. Smallwood added three rebounds, three assists and a team-high five steals in her collegiate debut against Rhode Island and chipped in two rebounds, two assists and a steal in 34 minutes at Penn.
