Albany junior guard Lucious Jordan and Northeastern junior guard Jose Juan Barea (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Miami Christian) share the first America East Player of the Week honors. New Hampshire freshman Chris Vetrano is the Rookie of the Week. Each of the honors was announced Monday (november 22).
Jordan (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central/Loyola (Md.)) made his Great Dane debut memorable by scoring 17 of his career-high 30 points in the first half, including the final 13 of the half to help Albany to a 45-32 lead at the break.
Barea (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Miami Christian) scored the Huskies final 14 points, including a three-pointer with 0.9 left in Northeastern’s 88-85 win over Cornell. He finished with 35 points, five rebounds and five assists. A day earlier, he had scored 24 points with seven assists and four steals in a loss to Birmingham-Southern. The 6-0 guard was named to the All-Tournament team at the Marist Pepsi Classic.
Vetrano (Andover, Mass./Andover) scored 12 of his 14 points in the second half as the Wildcats overcame a seven-point deficit to win at Liberty, 59-58. He also averaged 4.5 assists per game as New Hampshire started 2-0 for the first time since 1998-99.
