Sroczynski, Johnstone, Engler, Kirby Weekly Honorees

UMBC’s Jakub Sroczynski (Zielona Gora, Poland/VII Lo) and New Hampshire’s Chris Johnstone (South Burlington, Vt./South Burlington) have been named Men’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, while UMBC’s Lindsey Engler (Salisbury, Md./James M. Bennett) and Binghamton’s Maureen Kirby (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) have been named Women’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (November 23).

The senior Sroczynski, took first place in the 500 freestyle (4:31.74) at the George Mason Patriot Invitational. He finished second in the 200 free (1:40.73), and third in the 200 backstroke (1:50.95) at the same competition to lead UMBC to a third place finish overall, only trailing Yale and Duke. Sroczynski also anchored the 800 free relay team that placed second with a time of 6:53.79.

Johnstone, also a senior, finished second in both of his events, posting a respectable 214.34 in the one-meter dive and 239.78 from the three-meter height Saturday against Massachusetts.

Engler, a freshman at UMBC, took fourth place in the 50 with a time of 24.25 at the George Mason Patriot Invitational. Her time of 24.24 during the preliminaries broke the UMBC school record, which was previously set at 24.25, dating back to 1992.

Kirby, a senior at Binghamton, won the one-meter dive with a score of 300.655, and placed second in the three-meter, scoring 180.05 points to help Binghamton University take third against Wagner, Cortland and St. Francis (Pa.) at the Cortland Thanksgiving Invitational.
