Daly, Gavozdea, Holmes, Paguia Grab Swimming and Diving Weekly Honors

New Hampshire’s Shannon Daly (Brightwaters, N.Y./Brightwaters) and Northeastern’s Adela Gavozdea (Sibiu, Romania/ O Goga) have been named Women’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, respectively, while Binghamton’s David Holmes (Doncaster, England/Derby University) and Boston University’s Victor Paguia (Lake Forest, Ill./) have been named Men’s Swimming and Diving Performers of the Week, respectively. The awards were announced Tuesday (November 16).

On Saturday, Daly broke Colgate's pool record in the 1000 freestyle by touching the wall in 10:24.51. She also won the 200 breaststroke in 2:20.59 and was a member of the winning 400-yard medley relay team. Sunday against Binghamton, she set the new pool record in the 500-yard freestyle, finishing in 5 minutes, 4.37 seconds. She broke her own record of 5:05.59, set two years ago. Daly also won the 200 free (1:54.58) and had the fastest time in an exhibition swim of the 100 breaststroke (1:06.10).

Gavozdea, a senior at Northeastern, won the three-meter dive with a score of 247.15, and placed second in the one-meter, scoring 266.65 points to help Northeastern win its dual meet against Maine and Vermont last weekend.

Holmes swam the 100 yard butterfly in 51.65 breaking the pool record of 51.90 set by Chris McGuire in 2003. Holmes also took first place in the 200 yard freestyle (1:44.88). He swam the first leg won the 200 freestyle relay to help Binghamton win with a time of 1:29.09. Binghamton won the meet 120-86, improving to 5-1 on the season.

The senior Paguia continued his unbeaten streak by winning the one- and three-meter dives vs. UMass. In the one-meter, he had 298.2 points, while he captured the three-meter in 323.7 points.
