Goldman, Peterson, Sweany, Buchanan Earn Volleyball Honors

Albany's Shelby Goldman (Whitby, Ontario/Anderson Collegiate) has been named America East Player of the Week for the second time this season, while Northeastern's Bree Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) and Stony Brook's Morgan Sweany (Mission Viejo, Calif./Capistrano Valley) share America East Rookie of the Week accolades. Blair Buchanan (Muncie, Ind./Delta) of Albany also takes her fourth-straight and sixth America East Setter of the Week award on the season. The awards were announced on Monday (November 1).

Goldman sparked the Great Dane offense to three wins last week with 46 kills (4.60 kills per game), five digs and two block assists. She finished the week with a .435 hitting percentage and helped the Great Danes remain unbeaten in conference action. Goldman notched 16 kills and hit .485 against second-place Northeastern in a crucial victory that gave the Great Danes a two-game lead in the standings. She extended her double-digit kills string to 25 matches and has reached double-figures in 26 of 27 matches this season. For the season, Goldman has registered 387 kills (4.30 kpg) and pushed her hitting percentage to .303.

Peterson tallied 77 assists, 10 kills, 26 digs and three blocks for the Huskies in three matches last week. The freshman setter tallied 40 assists and a team-high 18 digs against Albany and tied a career-high six kills against Binghamton. Peterson also set a season-high record for assists in a three-game match with 35 in NU’s 3-0 win over Binghamton.

Sweany averaged 3.00 kills per game and 3.73 digs per game on the week, while leading Stony Brook to a 2-1 mark in conference play. She posted two double-doubles on the week to bring her season total to 13 and came up just one dig short of a third against Maine.

Buchanan continues to post strong numbers for the Great Danes with 126 assists (12.60 assists per game) in three matches last week. She also added 13 kills on 29 attempts for a .345 hitting percentage, 16 digs and two block assists. Buchanan registered 42 assists and five kills against Northeastern on Friday and has recorded at least 40 assists in her last five matches. She crossed the 1100-assist barrier on Saturday against Hartford, which ranks her second on the UAlbany single-season chart.
