Maynard, Shean, Shute Nab Weekly Field Hockey Awards

Vermont’s Mary-Beth Maynard (Waterbury Center, Vt./Harwood) and Northeastern’s Whitney Shean (Medfield, Mass./Medfield) have been named America East Co-Players of the Week for field hockey, while Boston University’s Sarah Shute (Lincolnville, Maine/Somers (N.Y.) has been named Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday (November 1).

Maynard scored Vermont’s first goal and assisted on three others, including the game-winner in overtime, as the Catamounts topped Albany, 4-3, as they both fought for the final playoff spot. Maynard finished the season with two goals and five assists for nine points, leading the team in assists.

Shean, a sophomore at Northeastern, scored both NU goals, lifting the Huskies over Maine 2-1, and in the process locked up the No. 2 seed for the America East Championship. Shean finished the regular season with 12 goals for 27 points, including three game-winners.

Shute scored the game-winning goal in the Terriers 2-1 win at New Hampshire on Saturday. The goal, and the win, secured the America East regular-season championship for the Terriers.
