Stony Brook's Maria Samilo (Lindenhurst, N.Y./Lindenhurst) and Julie Zub (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) have been named America East volleyball's Player of the Week and Setter of the Week, respectively. Northeastern's Bree Peterson (Huntington Beach, Calif./Marina) has also been honored with Rookie of the Week accolades. The awards were handed out on Monday (October 4).
Samilo was the Seawolves top offensive weapon over the weekend, leading the team to a pair of wins, including a 3-0 sweep of UMBC in the conference opener for both teams. She tallied 29 kills in six games on the week (4.83 kpg), while hitting .362.
Peterson recorded a season-high 70 assists in the Huskies' 3-2 victory over Harvard. She also added 17 digs and a service ace in the match and now leads NU with 461 assists (8.23 apg).
Zub was the catalyst of the Seawolves' offense this weekend, averaging an impressive 14.00 assists per game and 3.00 digs per game. She helped lead SBU to two victories on the week, earning her second such award of the season.
