Barea, Coppenrath, Janev Honored in Men's Basketball

Junior Taylor Coppenrath (West Barnet, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) of Vermont and sophomore Jose Juan Barea (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Miami Christian) of Northeastern share America East Player of the Week honors. New Hampshire’s Blagoj Janev (Sydney, Australia/Australian Institute of Sport) is the America East Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday (January 5).

Barea scored 18 points, handed out eight assists and had five rebounds and five steals in an 82-63 win over Stony Brook Friday. He followed that with 31 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals in a 75-72 win at New Hampshire Sunday.

Coppenrath scored 15 points and added 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season in a 67-60 win at Binghamton Friday. The 6-9 forward added 20 points and seven rebounds in a 67-66 win at UMBC Sunday. The 2003 America East Player of the Year scored 22 points and had nine rebounds in a loss at Rhode Island Tuesday.

Janev averaged 11.0 ppg in three contests. The 6-8 forward, who joined New Hampshire at the semester break, scored 20 points in 19 minutes in a 61-47 win at Army Tuesday. He made 7-of-10 shots from the floor, including 3-of-5 behind the arc. He scored 11 points in 23 minutes in a 75-72 loss to Northeastern Sunday.
