Boston University senior Katie Terhune (Port Murray, N.J./Warren Hills) has been named this week’s Wilson Player of the Week, while freshman Courtney Doughman (Ironton, Ohio/South Webster) of UMBC averaged 14.0 ppg enroute to earning Wilson’s Rookie of the Week honors.
Terhune scored a game-high 26 points, including nine in the overtime session, as Boston U. defeated rival Northeastern, 68-60, for the Terriers’ first conference road win of the season. The 6-0 guard connected on 9-of-12 from the free throw line and had six rebounds, two assists, and two steals in the victory.
In the Terriers 73-65 loss at Maine, she scored a game-high 22 points while tying a career-high with six three point field goals made.
Doughman came off the bench in both games for the Retrievers, scoring a career-high 17 points against conference leader Maine. In that game, the 5-8 guard hit 6-of-9 shots and was 5-of-6 from three-point land. Against New Hampshire Doughman was 4-of-6 from the floor and 3-of-4 from three-point range for 11 points. For the week she shot 66.7 percent from the field and 80.0 percent from behind the arc.
Doughman is the first ever women’s basketball player to earn an America East weekly award for league newcomer UMBC.
