Sophomore Jose Juan Barea (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Miami Christian) of Northeastern and junior Taylor Coppenrath (West Barnet, Vt./St. Johnsbury Academy) of Vermont share America East Player of the Week honors. Hartford’s Bo Taylor (Reston, Va./Paul VI Catholic/Bishop O’Connell/South Lakes) is the America East Rookie of the Week. The honors were announced Monday (January 19).

Barea scored 29 points and handed out seven assists as Northeastern won at UMBC, 81-62, Saturday. The 5-11 point guard also scored a game-high 23 points and had five assists in a 76-59 win over Hartford Wednesday. He ranks No. 3 in the conference in scoring (19.1 ppg) and leads America East with 6.1 assists per game.

Coppenrath scored a game-high 28 points, including the game-winning field goal with 1:26 left, and blocked a three-point attempt by Chaz Carr (Manchester, Conn./Manchester) with two seconds left, to lead the Catamounts to a 59-57 win at Boston University Saturday. The win gave Vermont the outright lead in America East and also halted the Terriers’ 11-game win streak. The 6-9 forward also scored 30 points in a 77-70 win over Stony Brook Wednesday. He leads America East with 24.6 points per game.

Taylor recorded his first double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds in a 69-55 win over Stony Brook Saturday. The 6-4 forward was 6-of-8 from the floor. He also scored six points and added five rebounds in a loss at Northeastern Wednesday.
