Zwarich, Witt Receive Weekly Women's Hoop Honors

Northeastern’s Maralene Zwarich (Merriam, Kan./Shawnee Mission North) and freshman Ikea Witt (Vineland, N.J./Sacred Heart) of Hartford have been named the America East Wilson Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week respectively on Monday (January 12).

Zwarich, a 6-0 sophomore, scored 19 points in Northeastern’s 62-58 America East opener win against Vermont on Wednesday night and followed it up with a 27-point performance in Saturday’s 73-52 win over Albany. Zwarich also registered eight steals in two games for the Huskies.

Witt, who receives her fifth such award in seven weeks, averaged 15.5 ppg and 3.5 rpg as the Hawks opened America East play with wins over Boston University and UMBC. Witt scored 12 second-half points to finish with 14 at Boston U. on Wednesday before tying a career-high with 17 points in the win over UMBC The 5-8 guard has reached double figures in nine of her first 12 games and leads the team in scoring (12.7 ppg), rebounding (4.8 rpg) and field goal percentage (.491).
