Binghamton Women First at Big Orange Invitational

The Binghamton women’s cross country team placed five runners in the top 10, out-finishing four teams, including the University of Massachusetts and Syracuse, to take first at the Big Orange Invitational (complete results) in Syracuse last Saturday.

Paving the way for the Bearcats was Lindsey Bohrer-Yardley (Oneida, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) who finished second with a time of 19:40 and Erica Angell (Poughkeepsie, N.Y./Speckenkill) who was third at 19:54. Binghamton runners dominated the top spots, as Taryn Menard (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero North), Allison Furey (Smyrna, N.Y./Sherburne-Earlville) and Mary Tursi (Staten Island, N.Y./St. John’s Villa) grabbed spots six, seven and nine respectively.

  • Around the Conference in Women’s Cross Country:
    Carried by the legs of Amber Cullen (Westford, Mass./Westford Academy) and Emily Watson (Groton, Conn./Fitch), who finished ninth and 10th overall, Northeastern managed a second place finish at the Quinnipiac Invitational (complete results). The Huskies, ranked 18th in New England by the New England Intercollegiate Amateur Athletic Association (NEICAAA), was second only to fourth-ranked Yale.

    Elsewhere in America East women’s cross country, Albany finished fourth out of 14 teams at the George Washington Invitational (complete results). Meghan Howell (Sloatsburg, N.Y./Suffern) had a strong performance, placing 11th with a time of 19:34, while her teammate Nicole Susser (Albany, N.Y./Colonie Central) was not far behind in 16th place overall. Stefanie Thomas (Springfield, PA/Springfield) led all UMBC runners with a time of 19:34, as the Retrievers finished sixth out of 18 teams at the Great American Cross Country Festival (complete results) in Cary, N.C. Boston University, ranked number 11 by the NEICAAA, finished the Iona Meet of Champions (complete results) 13th overall, as Jessica Iannacci (Lunenburg, Mass./Lunenburg) was the top finisher for the Terriers.

  • Around the Conference in Men’s Cross Country:
    The Northeastern Huskies finished fourth, while America East rival Hartford finished eighth at the Quinnipiac Invitational (complete results). Leading the pack of Huskies was Jon Litchfield (Athol, Mass./Athol) who finished 11th with a time of 27:01, while Jon Geary (Morrisville, Vt./Peoples Academy) was the top finisher for Hartford with a time of 29:06.

    In another America East confrontation, Boston University, ranked 4th by the NEICAAA, finished 9th at the Iona Meet of Champions (complete results), defeating conference rival New Hampshire. Jochen Dieckfoss (Tubingen, Germany/Geschwister) finished 20th overall for the Terriers, while James Olsen topped all New Hampshire runners, who finished 18th as a team.

    Rounding out the men’s cross country results, Adam Driscoll (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) placed 15th at the Great American Cross Country Festival (complete results) to help UMBC to a 15th place finish. Albany placed fourth at the George Washington Invitational (complete results) as Andy Alstadt (Endicott, N.Y./Union-Endicott) placed 14th. Binghamton managed a fourth place finish at the Syracuse Big Orange Invitational (complete results). Tom Williams (Pleasant Valley, N.Y./Arlington) led all Bearcat runners with a time of 28:33, good for an eighth place finish.
