The New Hampshire women’s cross country team finished first at the Central Connecticut State Invitational (complete results) last Saturday behind the strong performances of Lesley Read (Dover, N.H./Dover) and Caitlin Hayes (Keene, N.H./Keene) who finished first and second with times of 17:51 and 18:03 respectively. Wildcat Megan Heep (Milton, Vt./Milton) finished the race fourth at 18:16, while teammate Katie Litwinowich (Holden, Mass./Wachusett) came in seventh at 18:36.
The University of Vermont finished third at the meet with 94 points, 58 points behind America East rival New Hampshire, while Maine finished the day fourth with 101 points. Rounding out the top conference finishers were Maine’s Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine/Brewer) who finished sixth overall with a time of 18:35, and Vermont’s Tee Gingras (Barre, Vt./Spaulding) who finished 10th at 18:50.
?Around the Conference in Women’s Cross Country:
Stony Brook’s Jackie Nunez (Mt. Sinai, N.Y./Suffolk Community) placed first and Laura Hixson (Media, Pa./Penncrest) placed fifth to help the Seawolves grab a fifth place team finish at the Monmouth Invitational (complete results). Elsewhere, Hartford’s Becky McVeigh (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) led the Hawks at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational (complete results) with a time of 20:06. Hartford finished 20th out of a large group of 26 teams.
?Men’s Cross Country Action:
Jeffrey Caron (Auburn, ME/Edward Little) finished fifth with a time of 27:04 to carry Maine to a second place finish at the Central Connecticut State Invitational (complete results). Lee Stanton (Fair Haven, Vt./Fair Haven) led the way for Vermont at 28:43 and a 27th place finish as the Catamounts finished eighth overall.
Also during the week, Brian Farrell (Wicklow, Ireland/Abbey Community) ran Monmouth’s 5K (complete results) trail in a time of 26:49 to lead Stony Brook to a fourth place finish. UMBC finished fourth at the Navy Invitational (complete results) with Adam Driscol (Sewell, N.J./Washington Township) leading the way with a time of 26:29, good for 20th overall. Finally, at the UMass-Dartmouth Invitational (complete results), Hartford placed 20th out of 26 teams.
