Seventh Inning Surge Leads Albany Over Boston U.

University at Albany junior Andrea Lindgren pitched her second three-hit shutout of the America East Softball Championship, as No. 2 seeded Albany defeated top seeded Boston University, 3-0, at University Field in a second round game of the Championship.

The first six innings saw a pitchers duel between Lindgren and Boston University senior Tiffany Finateri, as each team was able to advance a runner into scoring position twice, but neither team could crack the scoreboard.

Albany was able to get to Finateri in the to of the seventh inning. Scoring three runs on two hits, benefiting from three Boston University errors. The seventh inning began with an infield single from America East Rookie of the Year Maegan Larsen. Senior Stacy Kowal then hit a hard hit ball to shortstop which was thrown into right field trying to get the force of Larsen at second. Larsen came home to score the game's first run, as Kowal advanced to third. Sophomore Brittany Burnham came in to pinch run for Kowal, and junior Jen Nolette reached on a fielder's choice as the throw home was late allowing Burnham to score. Freshman Katrina Dunning then reached on a throwing error by the pitcher, and advanced to second, while Nolette was able to take third. Boston University then brought in sophomore Julie Henneke to pitch, who gave up an RBI single to left field, by Lindgren, scoring Nolette, for the Great Dane's third run.

America East Pitcher of the Year Lindgren allowed just three hits, while striking out four, for her ninth shutout on the season.

Albany advanced to the America East Championship Game, Saturday at 12 noon. Boston University will play again today in Game 5, against the winner of the Maine vs. Stony Brook game, for the right to meet Albany in the America East Championship Game. The America East Softball Championship utilizes a double-elimination format.
