Dartmouth Defeats Boston U. in NCAA Women's Lacrosse First Round

No. 7 Dartmouth defeated No. 20 Boston University, 9-7 in the first round of the NCAA Championship at Hanover, N.H. Thursday (May 8). The loss ends the Terriers' 12-game win streak.

The Big Green (11-4) jumped to a 2-0 lead a little over two minutes into the first half before America East Player of the Year Alyssa Trudel and Lindsay Lewis answered for the Terriers (14-5) to tie the game, 2-2, with 25:43 left in the half.

Back-to-back goals by Katieann Christian and a tally by Lana Smith gave the Big Green a 5-2 lead with 21:21 left in the half. Lewis scored her second of the game to cut the lead to 5-3 but Christian added her third of the contest for a 6-3 advantage with 15:44 left in the first. Danica Strutt and Trudel closed out the first half scoring for the Terriers, who trailed 6-5 at the break.

The second half started much the same way as the first with Dartmouth notching two quick goals before Lewis answered with her third and fourth of the game for the Terriers to cut the lead to 8-7 with 15:41 left.

Casey Hazel scored for Dartmouth with 3:10 left for the final margin of victory.

Anne Sheridan made 10 saves for the Terriers. Devon Wells stopped 11 shots for the Big Green.

Trudel finishes the season with 44 goals and 42 assists for 86 points. She led America East and set school records in both assists and points. Lewis closes her rookie season with 40 goals and 12 assists for 52 points.
