Junior Andrea Lindgren pitched a complete game three-hit shutout as No. 2 seeded University at Albany defeated No. 3 seeded University of Maine, 1-0, at University Field, in an opening round game of the America East Softball Championship.
The Great Danes scored the lone run of the game in the bottom of the second inning when junior Liz Wieboldt tripled down the right field line, and was able to score on a Maine throwing error. Lindgren took over from there, tallying eight strikeouts, while not allowing a walk, for her eighth shutout of the season.
Albany moves on to face the winner of the No. 1 Boston University vs. No. 4 Stony Brook game, Friday at 11 a.m. Maine will be matched up against the loser of the Boston University vs. Stony Brook game, Friday at 1:30 p.m.
The America East Softball Championship utilizes a double-elimination format.
