Boston University swept Albany Sunday (May 4) to earn the America East regular-season title and the No. 1 seed in the America East Softball Championship, which will be held May 8-10 at University Field in Stony Brook, N.Y.
No. 2 Albany (17-4 in America East, 32-8 overall) will play No.3 Maine (13-9, 25-20) in the first game of the championship at 12 noon Thursday (May 8) with Boston University (17-3, 29-20) and No. 4 seed Stony Brook (12-10, 25-31) to follow at 2:30 p.m.
The double-elimination championship continues Friday with a winner's bracket game at 11 a.m. followed by a loser's bracket game at 1:30 p.m. Another elimination game follows at 4 p.m.
The championship game will be played Saturday at 12 noon with a second game to follow if necessary.
The winner of the America East Championship earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Softball Championship.
Last season Boston University won its first America East Championship since 1997. The Terriers also won the inaugural America East Championship in 1992 and again in 1993 and 1996. Maine won its only championship in 1994.
