Vermont has claimed the America East regular season title and the No. 1 seed in the upcoming America East Championship. Maine, Northeastern, and Stony Brook, round out the field for the championship, to be held at Centennial Field on the Vermont campus on May 22-24. Maine is the No. 2 seed, while Stony Brook will be the No. 3 seed and Northeastern will be the No. 4 seed.
Vermont and Maine battled Saturday for the regular season crown. The Catamounts needed to split the twin bill to claim their first America East Championship. Maine won the first game, 5-1, but Vermont won the nightcap, 2-1.
Maine and Stony Brook will kick off the double-elimination championship at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, followed by Vermont and Northeastern at 7 p.m.
The winner of the America East Championship receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Baseball Championship.
