Oklahoma State's Crystal Lee hit a home run in the seventh inning to account for the game's only run as the No. 2 seeded Cowgirls defeated No. 7 seed Boston University, 1-0, on the opening day of the NCAA Regional in Fullerton, Calif. Thursday (May 15).
The Terriers (33-22) fall into the Region 6 loser's bracket and will face No. 6 seed Penn State Friday (May 16) at 12 noon (ET) in an elimination game. Oklahoma State (38-13) advances to face the No. 3 seed Oregon Friday at 5 p.m. ET.
Lee led off the seventh inning with her sixth home run of the season. It was only the fifth hit allowed by Terrier starter Julie Henneke, who struck out six and walked two.
Boston University threatened to break into the scoring column in the top of the third, as the Terriers loaded the bases with one out on a pair of walks and an error. Oklahoma State starting pitcher Lauren Bay ended the inning on a pair of strikeouts, two of her game-high 16 Ks.
Oklahoma State's Ryan Realmuto got the first base hit of the game in the bottom of the fourth, lining a double through the left side with one out. She was stranded at second, however, as Henneke struck out the next two batters to end the threat.
The Cowgirls put together back-to-back one-out singles in the bottom of the fifth, but Henneke again got out of trouble with a strikeout and a fly to center.
Bay allowed just one Terrier hit, a one-out to rookie Erin McDonald in the top of the seventh.
