Sophomore outfielder Josh Topp (Andover, Mass./Worcester Academy) of Hartford and sophomore first basemen/pitcher Paul Koslowski (Winchester, Mass./Winchester) of Northeastern share America East Player of the Week honors. Junior Mike MacDonald (Camden, Maine/Camden-Rockport) of Maine is the America East Pitcher of the Week. Rookie third baseman Jay Iannoni (Foxboro, Mass/ Xaverian Brothers) of Vermont is the America East Rookie of the Week. America East announced the awards on May 12.
Topp hit .600 (6-for-10) with a double, homer and six RBI in four games against Albany over the weekend. In game one on Saturday (May 10), Topp went a perfect 3-for-3 with a double. He finished Saturday’s doubleheader 4-for-6 with an RBI. Topp broke open Sunday’s (May 11) 9-4 game one victory with a two-out grand slam homer over the right field wall to put the Hawks ahead 4-0. He finished Sunday’s doubleheader 2-for-4 with five RBI.
Koslowski batted .800 for the week and knocked in nine RBI for the Huskies, who went 4-1 last week. He went 2-2 and added three RBI against UMass on Wednesday (May 7) and also in the second game of a doubleheader versus Pace on Sunday (May 11). Koslowski hit his first home run of the season on Saturday (May 10), going 2-2 and scoring two runs. He had a slugging percentage of 1.100 for the week and also came in to pitch six innings and pick up the win on the mound in game one of a doubleheader against Pace on Sunday.
MacDonald picked up a win in his season’s first relief appearance on Wednesday's (May 7) 4-3 win over Central Connecticut State. MacDonald pitched the final two innings, retiring six of the seven final batters, while striking out three. He picked up his second win of the week in the 4-1 win over Stony Brook on Sunday (May 11), pitching a complete-game four-hitter. He allowed just one run and struck out nine. In that game, MacDonald faced just 25 batters, four over the minimum.
Iannoni hit .571 with 4 HR and 6 RBI in Vermont’s four-game sweep of Binghamton. He went 8-for-14 with seven runs scored, 20 total bases, and a 1.429 slugging percentage. Iannoni had two hits in each game including a home run each of the four games. Two of those homers were the game-winning RBI.
