Boston University (5-0 in America East, 11-4 overall) has earned the No. 1 seed and will host the America East Women's Lacrosse Championship at Nickerson Field on the Boston campus. The semifinals will be played Thursday, May 1 with the championship game slated for Saturday, May 3.
The Terriers will play No. 4 seed Stony Brook (2-3, 7-9) in the first semifinal at 1 p.m. Thursday. No. 2 New Hampshire (4-1, 4-11) will meet No. 3 seed Vermont (2-3, 4-9) in the other semifinal at 3:30 p.m. that day. The championship game will be played at 12 noon Saturday.
The winner of the America East Championship receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
Vermont, Stony Brook and Albany all posted 2-3 marks in conference play. Each was 1-1 vs. the other two in head-to-head competition, the conference's first tie breaker. The three teams all lost to No. 1 Boston University and No. 2 New Hampshire and all three defeated No. 6 Binghamton (second tie breaker of record vs. the standings in descending order). The teams had three common non-conference opponents and each defeated Siena and lost to Sacred Heart (third tie breaker vs. common opponents). None of the three had a win over a ranked opponent this season (fourth tie breaker), nor did any play a ranked opponent (fifth tie breaker). Thus a draw was held to determine the final two championship teams. Vermont and Stony Brook were drawn at random, with the Catamounts gaining the No. 3 seed by virtue of their win over the Seawolves.
Boston University, which has appeared in each of the last four America East Women’s Lacrosse Championship games, won its second championship in three seasons last year with an 11-5 win over top seed and host New Hampshire.
