Junior center Maren Matthias (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) of New Hampshire is the Wilson Player of the Week, while freshman guard Danyelle Ingram (Atlanta, Ga./North Atlanta) of Stony Brook is the Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday, March 10.
Matthias netted 26 points on 12-18 shooting and added nine rebounds in UNH’s 60-50 victory over Hartford Wednesday (March 5), with 16 of those points coming in the first half. In UNH’s game at Binghamton (March 8),Matthias was limited to seven minutes in the first half due to foul trouble, but came on strong in the second stanza, scoring 17 of her 23 points after intermission as the Wildcats fell to the Bearcats, 70-68. Matthias was 8-10 from the floor in the second half and 9-12 for the game. She shot 70 percent (21-30) for the week.
Ingram had an outstanding week led off by a career day against Albany on Wednesday (March 5). Ingram drilled her first 13 field goals against the Great Danes, just one short of qualifying for the NCAA all-time best field goal percentage list. She scored 18 points by halftime and finished with a career-high of 29. Her 13-of-15 shooting set a school record. She also grabbed five rebounds and had four assists. Against Vermont in the regular season finale (March 8), Ingram connected on 4-of-9 shots for eight points. She also recorded five assists. On the week, she averaged 19 points and hit 71 percent from the field (17-of-24).
