Junior forward Heather Ernest (Farmington, Maine/Mt. Blue) of Maine and junior forward Sherry Jordan (Stony Mountain, Ga./Clarkston) of Stony Brook share Wilson Player of the Week honors. Freshman guard Maralene Zwarich (Merriam, Kan./Shawnee Mission) of Northeastern is the Rookie of the Week. The honors were announced by America East on February 3.
Ernest logged her sixth and seventh double-doubles of the season while leading Maine to a pair of victories. She had game-highs of 20 points and 12 rebounds in a 59-37 win at Boston University on Wednesday (January 29). Ernest shot 9-15 from the field against the Terriers, and was a perfect 2-of-2 at the free-throw line. Saturday (February 1), she had 24 points and 13 rebounds to lead the Black Bears to a 74-64 overtime win against Hartford. Ernest was 10-of-12 at the line, and picked up three of her 24 points in the overtime session.
Jordan was instrumental in Stony Brook’s victory over New Hampshire (February 2) with team-highs of 24 points and 11 rebounds, her third double-double of the season. She also had four steals. During the final 8:47, the Seawolves did not miss a shot, and Jordan nailed four of Stony Brook’s 10 field goals. Jordan scored 14 of her points in the second half as the Seawolves turned a 38-38 tie into a lead as many as 23 in the second half. Jordan, who joined the team 10 games ago, has led the Seawolves in scoring seven times and in rebounding eight times in those contests.
Zwarich came off the bench to led the Huskies to two big conference wins this week averagine 21.5 points and 7.5 rebounds per contest. The freshman set a career-high with 22 points and was one shy of a career-high in rebounds with nine at Binghamton on Wednesday (January 29). Zwarich was the only player in double figures on either side, as she came out hitting her first four shots on the way to 13 first half points. The Merriam, Kansas native followed it up on Saturday (February 1) with 21 points and six rebounds against Albany. Zwarich started off hot in the first half again, netting 16 points on 4-4 shooting from the floor and 8-8 from the line.
