The 15th annual America East Men's and Women's Indoor Track and Field Championships will be held at the new Boston University Track and Tennis Center on the Boston University campus on Friday, February 22, and Saturday, February 23.
Northeastern University has won three-straight men's championships. The Boston University women have won the championship in three of the past four years.
Boston University junior Jochen Dieckfoss, who was named Most Outstanding Male Track Performer after winning both the mile and the 3,000-meter events last year, is returning to defend his titles. University at Albany sophomore Dustin Wilson, who won both the 200-meter Dash and the 55-meter Hurdles last year, also returns. Senior Vincent Tortorella of Northeastern also looks to defend his title in the Weight Throw.
University of Maine senior Viktoriya Rybalko, who was named the Most Outstanding Female Field Performer at last year's championship, after winning both the long jump and the triple jump, also returns. University of Vermont junior Kristal Kostiew, who won both the shot put and the weight throw, will look to repeat as champion in both events. The Northeastern duo of senior Ebony Jack, the returning 55-meter Dash champion, and sophomore Ahndraea Allen, the returning 200-meter Dash champion, look to defend their titles as well.
The Championship begins Friday at 12 noon with the men's and women's Pentathalon. Other Friday finals for both men and women are; Weight Throw, Pole Vault, Long Jump, 5,000- meter Run, and the Distance Medley Relay.
Saturday's events begin at 11 a.m. with the Shot Put Final. Other Saturday finals are; High Jump, Triple Jump, 1-mile Run, 55-meter Dash, 400-meter Dash, 500-meter Dash, 55-meter Hurdles, 800-meter Run, 1,000-meter Run, 200-meter Dash, 3,000-meter run, 4x800-meter Relay, with the events concluding with the 4x400-meter Relay.
Albany, Binghamton University, Boston University, University of Hartford, Maine, University of New Hampshire, Northeastern, Stony Brook University and Vermont—will vie for the 2003 Indoor Track and Field Championships.
