Albany rookie guard Jamar Wilson (Bronx, N.Y./All Hallows/Our Savior New American) and forward Levi Levine (New York, N.Y./Manhattan Center/Cheshire Academy) were named America East Player and Rookie of Week, respectively, on Monday (February 17). That duo helped the Great Danes become the only team in America East to win both of their games last week.
Wilson scored 30 points, including 19 in the second half in an 82-74 win over Stony Brook Friday. He followed that up with an America East season-high 39 points, including 24 in the second half, of an 87-79 win at New Hampshire Sunday. He made 14-of-17 from the field and added 10 rebounds for his second double-double of the season. The 6-1 guard ranks second in America East scoring with 19.2 ppg. That total would rank second in America East history in scoring by a freshman behind Vermont's Eddie Benton, who averaged 23.8 ppg as a rookie in 1992-93. Boston University's Tunji Awojobi (18.9 ppg in 1993-94), Northeastern's Reggie Lewis (17.8 ppg in 1983-84) and Vermont's Taylor Coppenrath (16.6 ppg in 2001-02) follow.
Levine averaged 12 ppg and 7 rpg as the Great Danes posted two wins last week. The 6-6 forward had 14 points, 11 in the second half, and pulled down seven rebounds in an 87-79 win at New Hampshire Sunday. Levine, who also earned Rookie of the Week honors on December 16, ranks ninth in America East in both scoring (13 ppg) and rebounding (6 rpg) and is fifth in free throw percentage (.779).
