Junior guard Melissa Heon (Somersworth, N.H./Somersworth) of Maine is the Wilson Player of the Week. Freshman guard Katie Meinhardt (San Francisco, Calif./St.Ignatious Prep) of Boston University and rookie forward Katarina Andersson (Lulea, Sweden/Midskogsskolan) of Northeastern share Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced by America East on February 10.
Heon had the basketball equivalent of a perfect game at Albany on Saturday, February 8, connecting on every shot attempt she made on her way to a season-high 22 points. She was 7-7 from the field, including a 4-4 mark from three-point range, and was a flawless 4-of-4 at the free-throw line. Heon also logged three assists and did not commit a turnover in her 23 minutes of play. Against New Hampshire on Wednesday, February 5, Heon matched her then-season high with 19 points on 8-12 shooting from the field, including 3-4 from beyond the arc. She also added an assist, a block, and a steal against the Wildcats.
Meinhardt scored a game-high 18 points in the Terriers’ 60-55 win over Albany (February 6). She converted a three-point play with 20 seconds remaining in the game to break a 55-55 tie and ensure a Boston U. victory. For the game, was 7-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from three-point range.
Andersson recorded her second-career double double with a game-high and career-high 20 points at Stony Brook on Wednesday (February 5) and also tied a season-high with 10 rebounds in the Huskies’ 57-55 loss. The freshman hit 10-12 from the floor and added a pair of blocks coming off the bench in 26 minutes of play. Andersson followed it up on Saturday (February 8) with nine points on 4-6 shooting in just 11 minutes of action as Northeastern defeated New Hampshire 78-61.
