Bell, Barea, Reed Earn Men's Basketball Honors

Boston University sophomore forward Rashad Bell (Queens, N.Y./St. Francis Prep) is the America East Player of the Week while Northeastern guard Jose Juan Barea (Mayaguez, Puerto Rico/Miami Christian) and Maine guard Kevin Reed (Yarmouth, Mass./Dennis-Yarmouth/St. Thomas More) share America East Rookie of the Week honors. All awards were announced Monday (February 10).

Bell led the Terriers to two conference wins. He scored 16 points and added six rebounds in 27 minutes as Boston University became the first America East team to win at Binghamton's West Gym this season. The 6-8 forward made 5-of-8 shots, including 3-of-5 three-pointers in the 85-82 win Sunday. He also had 16 points and 11 rebounds in 27 minutes in a 78-50 win vs. Albany Wednesday.

Barea had a season-high 28 points, including 19 in the first half, of a 75-61 win at New Hampshire Saturday. He had a game-high 19 points in the loss to Stony Brook Wednesday. The 5-11 guard is fourth in America East scoring with 16.7 ppg.

Reed averaged 14.5 ppg and shot 56 percent from the floor as the Black Bears won twice. The 6-1 guard scored 14 points, including a key three-pointer with 1:40 left to push the lead to six, in an 82-71 win at Albany Saturday. He scored 15 points in a 77-72 win over New Hampshire Wednesday. Reed made 7-of-13 three-pointers and leads America East in both three-point field goal percentage (.414) and three-pointers made (67).
