Seniors Heather Ernest (Temple, Maine/Mt. Blue) of Maine and Aaron Yantzi (Waterloo, Ontario/Waterloo-Oxford) of Vermont have been named America East Co-Players of the Week. Hartford’s Ikea Witt (Vineland, N.J./Sacred Heart) has been named America East Rookie of the Week. All the honors were announced Monday (December 22).
Ernest recorded her fifth double-double of the season in Maine’s 85-73 win over Rider Sunday. She shot 12-of-18 from the floor, finishing the day with 25 points, and led all America East players last week with 14 rebounds. Ernest also contributed seven assists and two steals in the game.
Yantzi led all America East players last week in scoring with her 28-point effort against Central Connecticut. She also pulled down a game-high 13 rebounds as she recorded her sixth double-double of the season. Additionally, Yantzi dished out two assists and had three steals in the Catamounts’ 65-44 victory over the Blue Devils.
Witt received her fourth Rookie of the Week honor following her 12-point, six-rebound effort in Hartford’s 60-53 win over Massachusetts Sunday. She shot a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line and also dished out a team-high four assists. Witt has now reached double figures in six of her first eight games and leads the Hawks in scoring (13.4 ppg) and field goal percentage (.514).
