Heather Hathorn (Scarborough, Maine/Loomis-Chaffee) of Maine and Lori Quintavalle (Haddonfield, N.J./Haddonfield Memorial) of UMBC were named America East Co-Players of the week, while Susanne Nilsson (Gothenburg, Sweden/Polhemsgymnasiet) of Hartford was named America East Rookie of the Week. The Week 9 women’s soccer awards were announced Monday, November 3, 2003.
Hathorn netted five goals on the week, including one against Albany and four against Vermont. Her four-goal game set a new school record for goals in a game and tied the school record for most points in a game. Both wins helped Maine earn a first round home game and the number three seed in the America East Championship.
Quintavalle’s unassisted goal was the lone goal of the game as UMBC upset Northeastern 1-0. The win clinched a playoff berth for the Retrievers who started off the year 0-5 in their inaugural season with America East. Quintavalle is now second on the Retrievers team in goals this season.
Nilsson helped Hartford clinch the number two seed in the America East Championship as she scored two goals and added one assist in the Hawks 5-0 win over Albany. As a freshman, Nilsson started all 19 games for the Hawks this season and finished the regular season with two goals and three assists.
