Vermont's Matt Chavez (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis) earned America East Player of the Week while Northeastern's Daniel Ivec (Heidelberg, Germany/Wiesloch Gymnasium) grabbed America East Rookie of the Week to round out the Week 5 men's soccer honors. The awards were announced Monday, September 6.
Chavez recorded 5 goals and one assist in an 11-point campaign during the week. He scored the game-winner and recorded one assist against Siena to give the Catamounts their first win of the season. On Saturday, Chavez capped off the week as he scored all four goals in a 4-4 double-overtime tie to conference rival Boston University. Chavez's four-goal performance tied the Vermont single game scoring record and fell just one goal shy of the America East record held by Hartford's Alon Lubezky.
Ivec, a freshman at Northeastern, recorded one goal in the Huskies’ 1-0 win over West Virginia. On Sunday, Ivec recorded his second goal of the week as Northeastern knocked off conference foe Stony Brook 3-0.
